Whirligig

"Gig" is a contraction of "whirligig" a derisive term for any cheap owner-driven two-wheeled vehicle. Such a vehicle would normally be used in country districts.  From the web site: http://www.guildofmodelwheelwrights.org/newsite03/vehicles/pas_2wheel.html

 

A whirligig was also a childs toy, like a spinning top.
