Arrowroot

Arrowroot was widely used as a food for invalids, who could not consume much, but it is actually a low calorie food, and much of the nutrition would have come from the milk it was mixed with.  It was also used as a baby food, and as a setting agent.  See also: http://www.newstatesman.com/200110290039
