The Bevan Family Letters - digital archive project
Project start date: 1998 - acquisition of letters
Project end date: 2009 - launch of website with digitized assets made available
Project details
The Bevan Family Letters project is one of many digital archive initiatives currently underway at The Regency Town House. Others programs we are developing include providing access to historic books and, soon, to 18th and 19th century architectural ornament.
Objectives
The objectives behind our work are to:
- Make our collections accessible to the widest possible audience by establishing a text transcription of each document (one that is supported by metadata and photography)
- Provide information that places the archive materials into a social and historical context
- Offer resources that promote research related to the records, in particular regarding the history and architecture of Brighton & Hove
- Develop web-systems that enhance access to and interpretation of our archive materials and which offer re-use capabilities to our project and others
